Zhang Bin (1920-2018), was a professor at Shanghai Normal University, a highly reputable linguist. One of the first four Ph.D. supervisors in the field of modern Chinese in China. He has been engaged in the study of modern Chinese grammar for almost 60 years and his academic achievements are remarkable.

He was the head of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of Shanghai Normal University, director and counselor of the Institute of Linguistics, vice president and counselor of the Shanghai Chinese Language Society, counselor of Shanghai Language Work Committee, honorary president of the national association for the study of modern Chinese language teaching in normal universities, editorial board member of Studies of the Chinese Language.
